News has broken that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
A Major Return to Panem
The duo are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their roles will take the form of a flash-forward sequence, given that the original saga concluded with their characters living in peace.
This represents the sixth film in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a recent book by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed nearly all the previous films in the series.
The Storyline and Fresh Faces
The film's events are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
