Previous FBI Chief James Comey Enters Innocent Plea to Allegations of Misleading US Legislators
Ex- Federal Bureau of Investigation director James the former director has pleaded not guilty to providing misleading information to congressional representatives and impeding a legislative process.
The former director's attorney filed the plea on his behalf in a US district court in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday.
His attorney stated he would seek to have the proceedings thrown out for various factors including that his the accused, a detractor of President Donald Trump, was being selectively prosecuted.
The former director was formally accused shortly after Donald Trump pressured his chief prosecutor to proceed against him.
Legal Proceedings
During the hearing on mid-week, the defense counsel the legal representative told the magistrate they aimed to file various petitions to dismiss the legal matter before a legal hearing, stating the legal action was vindictive and that a government lawyer was improperly appointed to handle the proceedings.
James Comey's proceedings was first managed by a Virginia prosecutor, who stepped down under pressure from Trump after his probe into a different rival - the New York official - failed to file indictments.

The former director appeared in positive mood as he walked into the legal venue on Wednesday, speaking with his lawyers and sharing humor. He was joined by his wife, his wife and child his daughter, a federal prosecutor who the Trump administration dismissed.
Upon hearing to the court read his constitutional guarantees and the dual charges against him in the courtroom on mid-week, Mr Comey was asked if he understood the charges.

Mr Comey was the FBI Director from 2013-2017 and was fired about several months into Trump's first term as president. At the time, the director was directing an probe into foreign election meddling and whether there were any links between Moscow and Trump's campaign.
Throughout his leadership, the director triggered a negative reaction from Democrats when he stated just shortly prior to the national vote that he was investigating Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's use of a personal email system. Charges against Clinton were never brought, resulting in criticism from the Republican party as well.
Present Charges
The federal government assert James Comey provided false information to US lawmakers during a congressional hearing in recent years when he was being examined about both the email probe as well as the election interference investigation. They say he provided false information to the legislative body by claiming he had not approved someone at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to leak to news outlets information about the government examinations.

Through a recording James Comey posted to his online platform after he was accused, he declared he was innocent and alleged the former president of acting like a "dictator".
"Our household have been aware for considerable time that there are consequences to standing up to Donald Trump," he commented. "We choose not to live on our knees."
"I have done nothing wrong," he continued. "So let's have a court case."
The accusations against Mr Comey emerged after Donald Trump shared on digital channels demanding his top legal official, Ms Bondi, charge the former director and others.
