New England Match Best Victory Run Since Tom Brady Era with Triumph Against New York Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has recorded five touchdowns this season
The New England Patriots equaled their best victory streak from the Brady period as they overcame division rivals the Jets by 13 points in professional football
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson was the standout with three touchdowns as the New England squad notched an eighth straight win for the initial occasion since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's last year with the team in the 2019 season
Signal-caller Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
The win increases the New England's lead at the top of the division as they improved to nine victories against two losses, with the New York bottom after dropping to two victories and eight defeats
The opposing team had scored first at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Justin Fields rushing for a short rushing score to finish the New York's opening drive
But the Patriots fought back in the second period as the rookie ran in two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier caught a pass from Maye at the back of the endzone in the middle of the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-7
"It was a crucial moment for him delivering, and it's been great for him to keep earning playing time," the quarterback commented on the rookie. "He wants to be outstanding."
Justin Fields found Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a pair of field goals in the final period as the Patriots sealed the win
