Marnus Labuschagne Dropped from Australia's One-Day International Lineup Against Team India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from the three-match ODI series versus India, with high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw earning a surprise call-up.

Recent Form Lead to Omission

The right-hander was left out from the ODI team following managing only a single run in his two batting efforts during the recent series against South Africa in August. He has a top score of 47 in his previous ten ODI innings.

The 31-year-old has featured in 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now continue to press his claims a Test recall ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Surprise Inclusion and Team Updates

Labuschagne has shown signs of a improvement in form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his first white-ball appearance in the forthcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a red-ball recall as Australia search for a answer to their opening batting issues.

Bowling Additions and Injury Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after having time off since performing well for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen may earn his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he aims to recover from a back injury in time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Squad Selection Approach and Fixtures

Australia have selected a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after hitting a ton in the last match against New Zealand to seal a 2-0 series win last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously get ready specific players for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on 19 October in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from 29 October.
